The Creative Animation Competition of Journey to the West started last week at Beijing's Tsinghua University.
Cartoon images of main characters and creative animations about the original story are to be collected from public submissions. One Most Creative Work, Five Creative Works and 100 Good Works will be given awards in December. The contest, which runs until Oct 31, is an event of the Huai'an Cultural Tourism Year 2010.
Huai'an is the birthplace of Wu Cheng'en, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) author of the classic novel Journey to the West. The city seeks to develop its cultural industry and pass on the novel's legacy to the younger generation.
Award-winning works and their derivative products are to be developed jointly by China Sanpu Smart Fox Cartoon Industry Group and other companies.
