Chinese director Zhang Jizhong (pictured), best known for his martial arts TV dramas, is changing track with a youth-themed series, Diary of an Air Hostess.
"I love martial arts, but I'm also interested in exploring new fields," says Zhang. "The plot is unique and inspirational. Instead of focusing on romance, it talks of the successes and challenges faced by a group of wait staff."
The production crew is set to film in Guangdong, Fujian and Hainan provinces as also in Europe.
Zhang's TV adaptations of classic martial art novels include Louis Cha's Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber (Yitian Tulongji), The Legend of Condor Heroes (Shendiao Xialu) and The Smiling, Proud Wanderer (Xiao'ao Jianghu). He is currently working on a reprisal of Journey to the West.
