The Magic of Thinking, Hua Qing's solo exhibition, displays his latest creations that include oil paintings, sculptures and installations.

Grouped under the theme, "I think therefore I am", the works feature personified images of animals.

The main figure in Hua's works is the chimpanzee. In Looking up the Sky, a chimpanzee sits in front of a blackboard, on which complicated mathematical formulae are written. Wearing a thoughtful expression on its face, the animal looks like a wise man pondering life's realities.

Other images such as ostrich, rhino and zebra also appear in Hua's works, and are said to represent the relationship between human beings and animals, nature and the universe.

The Magic Cube series, Hua's recent works, has four magic cubes with symbols placed randomly in the background, like stars in the night sky.

Hua compares objects in the universe to a magic cube, which can be twisted and turned according to certain rules so that the game can continue.

For the artist, all aspects of the real world, including politics, religions, civilizations, wisdom, survival and death are interconnected and contradictory, and yet coexist, just like the domain of a magic cube.

A graduate of the Central Academy of Art and Design, Hua is a veteran avant-garde artist and has held many solo exhibitions around the world.
