Queen of pop Madonna is seen in this video grab taken from her failed audition footage for hit 80s TV show Fame. The aspiring star, then aged 21, was desperate to land a part in the drama about students at a New York performing arts school. She failed to impress casting directors with her acting skills at the audition in January 1983, when Fame was about to start its second season. But the knock-back hardly dented her confidence as she went on to become one of the biggest names in music. The audition tape starts with Madonna, wearing a black sweater vest, introducing herself and talking about her fledgling music career. Sitting in front of a plain white background, she says: "Hi. Madonna. I'm from Detroit and I'm 21." Madonna doesn't seem too nervous as she tells how she is doing a tour of Florida with her three dancers, performing the 24 tracks she had recorded at the time.
