Lack of women in Chinese village leads to relocation

Half of the adult men in a small village blocked by mountains cannot find wives, prompting officials to move everyone to a location more conducive to social harmony.

Of the 47 villagers who live in Waimehe, deep in the mountains of Yunnan province's Yongren county, 26 are men.

Because of a dearth of women, 13 of the men ranging in age from 22 to 60 cannot find girlfriends.

Recently, after investigations by county government officials, plans are afoot to move all the villagers out of the mountains and resettle them somewhere with better living conditions and more favorable probabilities.

The residents will be relocated to another part of the county by the end of the year.
