In charge of royal construction works of the Qing Dynasty, the Lei family has made a great many glorious and brilliant achievements over 260 years. The family was respected and renown for the design and building of the Yuanmingyuan Imperial Garden, the Temple of Heaven, the Summer Palace, and other palaces, gardens, temples and mansions concerned. By starting with the manbuilding relationship, The Lei Family unfolds the strong charm and flavor of Beijing, telling how Lei Siqi and his son Lei Yanchang see the nation go to the dogs together with the hills and gardens, and therefore show concern for it in the ruins in the late Qing Dynasty.

Boris Eifman's ballet Rodin tells about the life and work of two great sculptors: Auguste Rodin and his disciple, mistress and Muse - Camille Claudel. The story of their love is truly a tragic one. For over 15 years Rodin and Claudel were one integral whole, both sensuously and creatively. The breakup of the lovers that ensued eventually was a fatal blow to the mental health of Camille leading to her tragic end. Half-forgotten, hardened, hopelessly impecunious, Camille goes mad. A paranoiac idea of a conspiracy against her being lead and inspired by Rodin himself incessantly torments the already weakened mind of the wretched woman. When she died, she was completely forgotten by all and everybody.

In 1913, Cai E was transferred to the capital under an order from the president of the Republic of China Yuan Shikai. The President entrusted him with an important position to win over his support, and he was also enchanted with the president. Also, he hoped to fulfill his dream of making the country and army stronger with his own efforts. However, Yuan Shikai, who had conceived an idea of being enthroned, distrusted him, and therefore sent for his family members in an attempt to keep him under control. Ostensibly Yuan showed concern for him, but in fact his family members were already held hostage. Cai pretended to be dissipated and shiftless all day long to relax Yuan Shikai's vigilance, but Yuan Keding, the eldest son of Yuan Shikai, who was ambitious to be crown prince, became suspicious of Cai E and ordered a raid on his house.

Against The Current 2017 Live in Shanghai

The band, formed by Chrissy Costanza, Dan Gow and Will Ferri in 2011 in Poughkeepsie, NY, unveiled their first song, "Thinking," in mid-2012 and self-released two Eps in the years that followed. Their 2015 release Gravity, sent the band on a world tour, playing venues across the US, Europe and Asia and selling out shows everywhere from Tokyo to Amsterdam to Paris. The album 'In Our Bones' as a whole encompasses a range of feelings and experiences, as well as stylistic tones. "Young & Relentless" is buoyant and propulsive, a bounding pop rock track with an immediate chorus, while anthemic pop number "Forget Me Now" is what Will calls "a look into the past, present and future of our lives." Lyrically, Chrissy took inspiration from other music and books she was reading, and drew a lot from her own experiences.

La La Angels - Chu Yibing Cello Duo

Chu Yibing was born in Beijing in 1966. His father Chu Yongning and mother Wang Yaoling are both professors at the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in Beijing. From 1989 to 2004 Chu was principal cellist of the Basel Symphony Orchestra, Switzerland. From 1999 Chu was also guest principal cellist of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. At the same time Chu began his conducting career. Chu has conducted the Munich Symphony Orchestra, German Symphony Orchestra (Berlin), Radio Symphony Orchestra Halle, Duesseldorfer Symphony Orchestra Zuerich Symphony Orchestra and Moravian Symphony Orchestra. In 2004 Chu was appointed cello professor, head of the cello department at the CCOM in Beijing, China. He founded the Chu Yi-Bing Cello Ensemble with his students, one of the very few chamber music group in China, playing countless concerts in many cities, specially in schools, colleges and universities.

Musical West Side Story

Provocative finger snapping of street gangs, Puerto Rican girls' whirling skirts on New York City's flat roofs, derelict West Side backyards - just a few notes of Leonard Bernstein's world-famous score, featuring songs such as Maria, Tonight, Somewhere, America and I Feel Pretty, immediately evoke these images of West Side Story. At its 1957 Broadway premiere the musical redefined an entire genre both musically and in terms of dance. The genius of its four creators - Leonard Bernstein, Jerome Robbins, Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim - produced a piece whose great artistic quality remains unquestioned to this day. The film version won ten Oscars and brought the masterwork to an audience of millions just a few years later. Today West Side Story stands unchallenged as the No 1 of American musical theater - daring, realistic, and as relevant as on the day of its premiere.

A Girlfriend's Letter in Court - a Discussion on Art Copyright

Part of the ongoing exhibition "Zhao Bandi: China Party," A Case of Love Gone Wrong for Pandaman is a video satire starring artist Zhao Bandi. The piece was made in response to two media outlets' misuse of a photo by the artist. In the video, Zhao reads aloud a letter from his supposed long-distance "girlfriend," who expresses numerous doubts as to the authenticity of the disputed photograph. The Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) invites renowned collector and lawyer Liu Gang, and artist Zhao Bandi to discuss the issue of art copyright. When a piece of art is illegally duplicated or plagiarized, how can the original artist appeal to the law? What does the process of copyrighting art entail? What happens when a copyrighted artwork is used outside of its intended purpose? The language of this discussion is Chinese.
