Shangri-La Hotel Changchun is launching its latest English teaching program at a primary school in Jilin province.

It will fund at least six foreign students from Jilin University to teach at Xinjiacun Primary School, which has 100 pupils, along with foreign staff from the hotel.

So far 150 staff have taught English lessons at the school since 2009, said the hotel's general manager Tian Keqiang.

"This method of letting staff teach at the school has proved very effective," said Tian.

Yu Jinfeng, the school's headmistress, said she would love more staff to get involved, as the pupils really enjoy being taught by the foreigners.

In previous years, hotel staff raised 200,000 yuan ($30,600) to help the school build reading and computer rooms. They also raised money to dig a new water well, and organized 100 volunteers to lay a new brick road to the school.
