HANOI - Newly appointed US ambassador to Vietnam David Shear arrived here on Sunday to replace his predecessor Michael Michalak who left the country in February.
According to the local VNExpress on Monday, Shear said he is looking for the new mission as the US ambassador to Vietnam.
Vietnam and the United States have achieved big progresses in bilateral cooperation and regional issues in recent years, and I hope to develop those results through close cooperation with Vietnamese partners, he said.
Shear is a professional diplomat and experienced in East Asia and the Pacific region affairs. He joined the US Foreign Service in 1982, with the latest position held as US Deputy Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs
Vietnam and the United States have established relations in many areas, including politics, economics, trade, investment, education, health, sciences and technologies. The two countries are looking for building a strategic partnership, said the report.
