ALMATY - A senior official of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on Tuesday called for more effective international cooperation in the battle against terrorism.
Dzhumanbekov made the remarks at a conference dedicated to the SCO's achievements in responding to modern threats and challenges in the past 10 years.
During the conference, Dzhumanbekov called for construction of the mechanism of information exchange and practical cooperation in anti-terrorist actions, and an early completion of a comprehensive convention on global terrorism.
He also noted that the SCO's agreements on fighting the "three forces," namely terrorism, separatism and extremism, should be well-implemented, and that efforts must be made to boost the work of the SCO-Afghanistan contact group.
SCO members should draw up a unified list of terrorist groups so as to effectively eliminate them in the region, said Dzhumanbekov, who pointed out the trend of more funding sources and stronger technical support of the terrorist groups in the region, as well as the rising number of suicide attackers they recruit.
