WASHINGTON- The United States said on Sunday it was consulting with the ROK and Japan on China's proposal for emergency talks on the Korean Peninsula crisis, and it again called on Beijing to act to curb Pyongyang's "provocations".
"We have called on China to urge the DPRK to restrain its provocations and responsibly act in the interests of peace and stability."
The proposed talks would include the countries involved in the six-party negotiations: the DPRK, the ROK, China, the United States, Japan and Russia.
The United States and the ROK on Sunday began military exercises in waters west of the Korean Peninsula that have been opposed by China and have led to the DPRK threatening "consequences".
