This futuristic, gray-colored pavilion was christened "Balancity", a new word signifying a city in balance. Its silver exterior shell will be sent to a German school in Shanghai's Qingpu district to be used as a sunscreen, while its steel components will be melted in the city's steel factories and reused in future construction projects. More than 60 bio-degradable staff uniforms were also buried in Houtan Park. |
Featuring a vast planted roof and two load-bearing cylinders, the pavilion's exterior walls were covered with resin tiles equipped with red solar cells and white LED lights that would flash when triggered by surrounding energy. All solar cells were preordered before the expo closed on Oct 31. |
