Water supplies in Tonghua city of northeast China's Jilin province will be partly resumed by 4:30 pm on Wednesday, Jiang Runmin, chief of the city's public utility bureau told China Daily.
The 350-meter-long temporary tap water pipeline has been completed by 12 am Tuesday and will be put into operation Wednesday after reinforcement and disinfection.
However, the temporary pipeline can supply only up to 7 tons of tap water on the daily basis, compared with the actual need of about 10 tons for the city with a population of 330,000.
"Bath centers and car wash services are forbidden to use the water," Jiang said.
As of 3 pm on Tuesday, local residents have been left without water supplies for about 63 hours, after floodwaters hit and cut off all the four tap water pipelines in the city.
Weather forecasts show that a new wave of rainfalls will start on Wednesday.
