China's State Council will issue guidelines to bolster Henan province to build the central economic zone no later than September, while the supporting regional development plan will come out by the end of the year at the earliest, the China Securities Journal reported Tuesday.
Led by the National Development and Reform Committee, an integrated research team formed by members from over 30 government departments went to Henan in the middle of June to investigate how to boost the construction of the central economic zone.
The central economic zone will take Henan province as the main body and include seven to eight neighboring cities with a population of about 150 million people, the report said.
Yu Xin'an, the head of Henan Academy of Social Sciences, said the central economic zone is designed as the national grain production base, the national demonstration zone for industrialization, urbanization and agriculture modernization, the new growth point for the central area, the national transportation and logistics hub and the creative heritage zone for Chinese arts of civilization.
