Lao approves high-speed railway linking China

VIENTIANE - The Lao National Assembly gave its permission to a plan of high-speed railway construction linking China to the Laotian capital of Vientiane, Lao News Agency (KPL) reported on Thursday.

The ambitious plan with China's financial backing was approved by the 10th Ordinary Session of the sixth National Assembly that closed here on Thursday, KPL said.

The high-speed railway link was said to begin construction from China's southwestern province of Yunnan in 2011, and be completed in Vientiane in 2015.
