SAIC, GM to develop powertrain technologies

SAIC Motor Corp and General Motors Co announced on Wednesday that they would jointly develop new powertrain technologies, including high-technology engines and gearboxes, according to a statement from the companies.

This will help the two automakers to further reduce the energy consumption and carbon emission of their products.

The new technologies will be used for the global market, and the two companies will share the intellectual property of the new technologies, Hu Maoyuan, chairman of SAIC, said after the signing ceremony held in Shanghai on Wednesday.
