Cross-boundary commuters from now on can withdraw renminbi as well as Hong Kong dollar from Bank of China (Hong Kong) automatic tellers machines (ATMs) at all railway stations.
Previously, people could withdraw renminbi from the East Rail stations and now the service has been expanded to over 110 ATMs in 75 other metro train stations.
Introducing the expanded service yesterday, Bank of China (Hong Kong) Ltd deputy chief executive Lam Yim-nam said the bank first provided dual currency withdrawal service via ATM in 1996.
"This service provides northbound travelers the last-minute opportunity to draw or exchange whatever amount of renminbi they need," he said. "Today, the service is extended to over 110 ATMs in 75 metro stations, providing flexible, convenient financial management services for people and visitors who shuttle frequently between Hong Kong and the mainland."
Bank of China account holders and associated bank account holders can both use this service. Whenever they slot their cards into the ATM, they will be allowed to withdraw either currencies.
In case of renminbi, the exchange rate, same as counter rate, is shown on the screen and the client is asked to confirm acceptance of the stipulated exchange rate before he can withdraw money.
The daily withdrawal quota is 10,000 yuan, while the maximum and minimum amount per transaction are 2,500 yuan and 100 yuan respectively.
