China has made "marvelous achievements in all aspects of life" over the past 60 years, Tanka Prasad Karki, the Nepali Ambassador to China, told China Daily Website in an exclusive interview. "I am especially impressed with the social, economic, and political transformation China has made," since the founding of the People's Republic of China 60 years ago, Ambassador Tanka Karki said. "China has really stood up; the 'sleeping tiger' has now stood up," Ambassador Karki said, before adding that the whole world should applaud China's outstanding accomplishments. "China has helped lift 300 million people out of poverty, which is a historical achievement," Ambassador Karki pointed out, "The whole world should rejoice in China's peaceful rise." He attributed China's extraordinary successes to its "quality leadership" and "national unity". "Behind China's marvelous achievements lies her dynamic and visionary leadership," Ambassador Karki said, "In the meantime, China's national unity as I find today is unprecedented." He also reiterated Nepal's commitment to China-Nepal relations and described bilateral ties as "excellent…problem-free and all-weather". But Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal recently decided that his first foreign state visit would be to India. Previous Prime Minister Prachanda went to China for his first visit. But Ambassador Karki said the decision does not reflect any souring of relations between the two countries, saying that it was only a result of the Minister's "personal schedule", which does not "bear any further connotation". Born on June 29, 1955, Tanka Prasad Karki began his tenure as the Nepali Ambassador to China in November, 2007. He is married with two children. |
