A seminar on Antarctic krill was held recently in Beijing, during which experts and industry insiders discussed about the tiny crustacean and krill oil.
Jia Jianbin, secretary general of the Chinese Nutrition Society, says Chinese consumers have become increasingly conscious of food safety and a natural approach toward food.
"The arrival of krill oil from the world's purest water — the South Pole — gives an additional option for Chinese consumers, and a supplement to the variety of nutrition they have," he says.
The sponsor of the activity, Aker BioMarine Antarctic AS, a Norwegian company, has passed an examination by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China, which labeled it as a "new food raw material".
