Focus on quality in Chinese wine industry
Local and international wine experts discussed ways to improve quality in the Chinese wine industry recently in Beijing. The event entitled 'Opening the Door to Wine Quality Improvement in China' was held at the Top Wine 2011 Trade Show, organized jointly by Wine in China and Normacorc, the world's leading producer of alternative wine closures.
According to Nasr Nagib, Nomacorc's vice-president, the company produces 10 million corks a year, accounting for 13 percent of the worldwide output of wine bottle corks. China's grape and wine production has been rising steadily, from 200,000 tons of output in 2000 to 1.88 million tons in 2010, according to You Yilin, doctorate student at the Wine Technology Development Center, China Agriculture University.
