Artistic Jewelry Shining with CharmUpdated: 2007-07-25 08:39 "Celebrations at the Legendary Jasper Lake" The 1.8-meter-long carving is vividly depicted with 116 figures in Chinese mythology. The carving derives from a Chinese mythology where all the legendary figures gather together to have a ceremonious birthday party for the empress in the heaven. In the carving, the figure of the empress is sitting in the center, graceful and dignified. The carving was done by Li Fengqiang, Director of Mei Cheng Da (Li's) Arts & Crafts Sculpture Institute which is based in Putian, Fujian Province . The wood carving screen wall It's a late Qing treasure from Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. At 3-meters-tall, 4-metesr-wide, and 1.5 -meters-thick, the screen wall is a combination of various art forms such as wood carving, enchasing, gilding, calligraphy, and painting. The carved content derives from the theatre stories in the late Qing Dynasty. All the animals and carved flowers have auspicious connotations. Red, gold, and black dominate the artifact. Calligraphy was done by Deng Shiru, a master calligrapher in the Qing Dynasty, with different calligraphy styles including regular script, official script, running script, and cursive script.
