While Bu Kewen serves as a stylist to the stars, he offers some advice that applies to everyone.
First, he says, if you don't know how you want to look, copy someone whose style you like.
But be careful to pick the right garments and accessories when doing this. Selected street shots are good examples.
Don't just dress according to what's in. Wear clothes that reflect your personality, he says.
If presented with clothes from Shanghai or Guangdong's provincial capital Guangzhou, Chinese women should go with the clothes from Shanghai.
And, last but not least, avoid too many rhinestones, he adds.
Bu usually only offers tips to people he knows well - like Fan Bingbing - because individual characteristics are crucial to fashion, he says.
Bu and Fan agree on what to wear for different occasions, Bu says.
"We go for unique, sharp and fatally attractive at fashion weeks, even it means a bit of risky experimentation," he says.
"Fan should appear elegant and noble at international film festivals. We want her to seem at ease at other events to show who she is in daily life."
Fan chooses her own outfits in her private life, Bu says.
But once any of Fan's looks are seen by the public, similar clothes will sell out online, Bu says.
