As Ding being the UK Championships title holder last year, the match between the Chinese ace and Gerard Greene attracted huge amount of people to the stadium.

Ding didn't show his form in the opening frame and failed to put into the red ball. However, Ding took the next four frames in a row to lead by 4-1. Greene then pulled two frames back. Ding dominated the final  frame and fire in break of 107 to seal the victory.

At the news conference, Ding wasn't satisfied with his performance although he  won the match. "I didn't play well, especially when I was leading by 4-1," said Ding,  turning 23 this April,"I suddenly lost my form at that moment." Ding will meet the winner of  Mark Selby and Rod Lawler in the second round.

John Higgins was also not at his best, but he too battled through 5-3 against Fergal  O'Brien. "I'm very happy to win but there were lots of mistakes from the two of us," said  Higgins. "If I play like that against Mark I'll lose." Higgins will face Mark Williams, who  defeated Jamie Cope 5-3.

Australia's Robertson easily wrapped up a 5-2 win over Mike Dunn. From 1-1, Grand Prix  winner Robertson took four of the last five frames with breaks of 112, 88, 102 and 66.

Marco Fu from Hong Kong of China also breezed into the top 16 by prevailing 5-2 against  Belgium's Bjom Haneveer. It is his first win in a ranking event match since the Shanghai Masters last September.

Stephen Maguire claimed a 5-3 victory over Barry Hawkins, Ryan Day saw off Robert Milkins 5-1 and Mark Allen eliminated Graeme Dott 5-1.
