OTTAWA - Chinese speed skater Yang Yang ran as an international torchbearer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay in Eastern Canada on Sunday.

Yang, China's first ever Olympic Winter Games gold medalist, ran a leg of relay at Summerside, the second largest city in the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI).

Yang, who won two gold and one silver medals in Salt Lake City, a silver in Nagano and a bronze in Torino, is one of the 15 international torchbearers who have been selected to take part in the relay across Canada.

"I am very proud and honored to be selected as a torchbearer," said Yang in a statement.

The torch on Sunday began its second of a three-day stint in PEI in Charlotte town, with torchbearers stopping for lunch in Cavendish.

The torch began its journey across Canada on October 30 in Victoria, capital city of Canada's western province of British Columbia.
