A survey by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's government shows that the population of marriage-age males is much smaller than that of females in the special administrative region, making it harder for local women to find suitable spouses.
The research also found that many men prefer to marry women with lower education levels than themselves.
Meanwhile, more Hong Kong men have been marrying mainland women. One third of the marriages registered in Hong Kong last year were with mainlanders.
