Huge salaries a long, tall story

A travel agency in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province recently offered 100,000 yuan (US$12,330) annual basic salary to attract 50 experienced guides for long-haul tours.

Apart from requirements such as being fluent in foreign languages and the ability to cope with emergencies, the company also requires applicants to have at least five years' related work experience.

The company also has standards for personal appearance; female applicants should be 1.62 metres to 1.7 metres tall.
