The Beijing Youth Daily reports that Qianmen Avenue, a traditional commercial street in central Beijing, is to be reconstructed as a pedestrian-only street reminiscent of its prosperity during the Ming and Qing dynasties hundreds of years ago.

It is scheduled to be completed by 2008 to welcome in the Beijing Olympic Games.

The street contains more than 80 traditional Chinese brand stores, some former homes and other historical relics.

One of the most famous one is the Quanjude restaurant which is world-renowned for its roast Beijing duck.
