"The Kiss," the sculpture by French artist Auguste Rodin, opened for display for free in a Beijing apartment complex Saturday.
"As people are used to go to museums to see art, we take the 'abnormal' display form this time to let visitors watch artwork closer to their lives," said Cheng Xindong, an international exhibition planner at the opening ceremony.
Cheng brought the sculpture to the apartments at the invitation of the developer of the complex, Dongrun Fengjing. The work was ondisplay at the National Museum of China in early November this year. This is its first visit to China.
"The display supplies me with the access to prominent artworks more conveniently," a resident living in the complex surnamed Sheng said.
But the dazzling light in the room did not allow people to see the other side of the sculpture.
The two-day exhibition also includes 15 paintings of two French painters, Christian Bonnefoi and Francois Rouan
"The Kiss," drawing from Dante's Divine Comedy, shows two lovers' kissing. It is 45 centimeters high and was bronze-poured by Rodin himself in 1898.
