Updated: 2005-11-08 22:39

The fight against bird flu is serious, said Chinese Agriculture Minister Du Qinglin Tuesday. He also demanded the agricultural departments take all measures to prevent the expansion of bird flu.

Du said, bird flu has not been curbed in the whole world, and in some nations, the disease was still developing. Governments of all nations and international organizations paid great attention to the prevention of the disease. So far the disease was reported in 24 nations and regions and expected to expand.

The disease occurred in four Chinese provinces and regions since October. It was already brought under control in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Anhui and Hunan provinces. However it's still hard to control in Liaoning Province.

Du said the disease can be prevented and controlled, but can not be delayed.
