In the first half, Chinese player Gao Lin was sent off by the referee only three minutes into the game. But it the video replay footpage showed that the Japanese referee Nishimura Yuichi made a mistake.

The Chinese national squad set the pace of the match early in the second half when defender Sun Xiang unleashed a powerful volley in the penalty area to lift China to 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute.

South Korean player Kim Jin-kyu equalized in the 72nd minute by hammering a free kick inside the right post with such force that goalkeeper Li Leilei was left fumbling despite diving straight into the ball's path.

Yuichi gave a penalty to South Korea in the 80th minute and Cao Yang was sent off. But the video replay footage showed the penalty was mistakenly awarded to the South Korean side.

Li Leilei save China by holding the penalty ball kicked by South Korean player Lee Dong-gook.
