China's per capita GDP has topped ten thousand yuan, or some US$1,200.

The National Development and Reform Commission says China's GDP also hit a new high of more than 13.6 trillion yuan, or about US$1.6 trillion by 2004, when compared with the planned 12.5 trillion yuan, or US$1.5 trillion, by 2005.

It adds the country's GDP has grown by 8.6 percent over the past four years, 1.6 percent higher than expected.
