Post-war Iraq clouded by fear of death
A boy walks towards the rubble of a house which residents said was destroyed by a U.S. airstrike during a U.S. military offensive near the western Iraqi village of al-Karabla May 14, 2005. The U.S. military said it had killed 125 insurgents in an offensive in western Iraq that ended on Saturday but guerrillas struck again in Baghdad, assassinating a senior official and attacking police patrols. The week-long Operation Matador was aimed at rooting out militants and insurgents from a stronghold in Anbar, the heartland of Iraq's insurgency. Picture taken May 14, 2005. [Reuters]
