US warned: Be aware of Chen's dirty tricks
By Jiang Zhuqing (China Daily)

China again warned Washington it should be  "fully aware of the fraudulence and grave danger'' posed by Taiwan's pro-independence forces.

The US State Department said there were "positive and constructive" contents in a statement released earlier by the Taiwan Authorities.

"The United State should refrain from sending any wrong signals to 'Taiwan's independence' forces," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhang Qiyue yesterday.

""It should honour the commitments repeatedly reaffirmed by the US Government and leaders to adhere to the one-China policy, observe the three Sino-US joint communiques and oppose Taiwan independence," Zhang said.

Only this can help maintain the development of the China-US relations and the peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits, she said.

Ties with Vanuatu

Zhang said China hopes that the government of Vanuatu, a South Pacific nation, will keep its"serious promise" in the 1982 communique of the establishment of diplomatic relations with China.

"Vanuatu promised very clearly that the government of the People's Republic China was the only legal government and Taiwan was an inseparable part of China," Zhang said.

On November 10, the Vanuatu's council of ministers made a decision to withdraw the decision by its prime minister to establish "diplomatic ties" with Taiwan on November 3.

Vanuatu's council of ministers had dropped on Monday its opposition to Prime Minister Serge Vohor's decision.

Powell's resignation

Commenting on US Secretary of State Colin Power's resignation, Zhang said Powell has made positive efforts in the improvement and development of China-US relations, of which we express our appreciation.

China and the US share extensive common interests and foundation for co-operation, she said.

On the nuclear agreement between Iran and the EU

China welcomes Iran's decision to voluntarily suspend all its uranium enriching and reprocessing activities and reach an agreement with European Union, Zhang said.

"We appreciate the diplomatic efforts made by Iran, the EU and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and other parties concerned,'' she said.

Zhang added China hopes the Iranian nuclear issue could be appropriately resolved within the framework of IAEA at an early date. "China will go on to play a constructive role to this end.''
