The 1.8-liter manual-transmission Passat, which was out of stock for a long time in Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan Province, is now available at 199,800 yuan (US$24,000).

The model, which was bought out by the Sichuan Shenrong Industry Company, exclusively entered the local public-service sedan and government-purchasing markets one month ago. Due to consumer strong purchasing intentions, however, the company has decided to supply the whole market.

Buyout sales, which have triggered price cuts for such models as the Picasso, Jetta Gix, Gol and 1.6-liter automatic Fukang, are currying favor with Chengdu consumers.
