Multilingual intelligent information service for Olympics

As part of the 7th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo, the Forum on Olympic Multilingual Intelligent Information Service was held in Beijing May 21.
Zhuang Zixin, deputy director of Beijing Multimedia & Network Laboratory, revealed at the forum that the research and development of the "Multi-language intelligent information service" has made breakthrough in phonetics identification, machine translation and phonetic combination.
The technology of the project has reached internationally advanced levels and will be tested with this year, Zhuang said.
The project, started in2001, is expected to provide multi-language support services for the official site of 2008 Beijing Olympics.
About 3,000 multilingual information boxes will also be set up to provide information on weather, catering and travelling.
