Summit on China's urban management and development

The 2004 Summit on China's Urban Management and Development -- a specialized exchange programme of the 7th China (Beijing) International High-tech Expo (CHITEC), will be held from May 23-25 at the Beijing Landmark Tower Hotel.

This is the first time that CHITEC will introduce a high-level seminar on urban management and development, aiming to promote Chinese city modernization and improve international competitiveness.

The summit, which will host leaders from the State Council, the Beijing municipality government, senior officials from Hong Kong and Macao SARs (Special Administrative Region) and other Chinese cities, experts and officials from US, Japan and Singapore and other countries, will focus on the following themes: urban resource integration and incrementation, urban informatization construction, city characteristics and regional development.

Confirmed speeches so far include the "Headquarters Economy and Beijing Development Strategy" by Lu Hao, vice-mayor of Beijing; "Macao Administration and Development Strategy" by Liu Shiyao, president of the Macao Civil and Municipal Affairs Institute; and "CBD Building with Chinese Characteristics" by Doctor Liu Taige, a world-renowned expert in city planning.

Song Zengbin, vice-mayor of Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning Province; Zhang Enhua, vice-president of Cisco (China); and Niu Wenyuan, chief scientist of the Strategic Research Group for Sustainable Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences will also attend the summit.
