A senior teacher in Foshan, Guangdong Province, was upset when he found the unexpected charge for an HIV test on the bill for his piles surgery recently, reports Guangzhou Daily.

Not having asked for the test, the man complained to the hospital saying he felt embarrassed about being associated with the test for the virus which causes AIDS.

The hospital told the media it routinely includes HIV tests prior to surgery to protect the staff. And an official with the municipal health department said hospitals are free to decide on the test on their own since there is no regulation on the matter.
