Jilted husband attempts suicide from top of bridge

A migrant worker who climbed 170 metres to the top of Shanghai's Yangpu Bridge to kill himself because his wife dumped him was persuaded to give up his attempt on Tuesday, reports Shanghai Youth Daily.

Policemen and firefighters arrived soon after receiving calls from concerned onlookers and talked him into coming down.

The man climbed down to 6 metres above the ground and jumped onto the safety cushion set up below.
