Mauresmo beats Clijsters to win Diamond Games
(AP)
Updated: 2006-02-20 11:49

The Frenchwoman answered in the second set with more aggressive play, posting four aces and upsetting Clijsters' timing, causing her to make several errors on returns.

Mauresmo took advantage of Clijsters' erratic play and evened the match after the second set.

It was their 13th meeting and Clijsters' second straight loss to Mauresmo. In their last meeting, Mauresmo downed the Belgian in three sets in the Australian Open semifinals after Clijsters withdrew with her ankle injury.

Mauresmo is set to play her next tournament in Dubai later this week, while Clijsters will take a week off.
