A minibus struck a land mine in southwestern Pakistan on Wednesday, killing six passengers and wounding five, a government official said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack in Dera Bugti, about 210 miles east of Quetta.

But the region's top government official, Abdul Samad Lasi, said the land mine was likely planted on the road by tribal militants to target security forces guarding gas pipelines and other government installations in the area.
