Tennis: Li Ting, Yuan Meng reach Australian Open main draw

Olympic doubles champion Li Ting and her junior teammate Yuan Meng have marched into the main draw of the Australilan Open.

Young Chinese players Li Ting and Yuan Meng have marched into the main draw of the Australian Open.

Olympic doubles champion Li smashed Japan's Shiho Hisamatsu 6-4, 6-2 to qualify for the main draw.

Her junior teammate Yuan also assured a place in the next stage, defeating Bethanie Mattek of the USA 6-4, 7-5.

Li will next take on Russian teenager Elena Vesnina, while Yuan plays Melinda Czink of Hungary.

On the men's side, Lu Yen-Hsun Lu of Chinese Taipei struggled to beat American Lesley Joseph 2-1 for a berth in the main draw.

Lu sets up a first round clash with Italian player Daniele Bracciali.
