Cargo ship sunk in E. China sea, leaving 13 missing (Xinhua) Updated: 2005-12-22 16:09
A cargo ship carrying 3,400 tons of china clay sunk in the Longkou sea area
in east China's Shandong Province at around 8 p.m. Wednesday, leaving 13 people
missing.
The ship was trying to anchor at Longkou Port Wednesday evening when it was
sheered by strong winds and tilted by huge wave, spilling all of the 14 people
onboard into the sea.
The ship, which belongs to Mingyang Shipping Co. Ltd of Wenling City, east
China's Zhejiang Province, was cruising from Shantou of Guangdong Province to
Laizhou of Shandong, according to the Administration of Work Safety Supervision
of Wenling.
As of 2 p.m. Thursday, only one person has been rescued and 13 still remain
missing. The rescue work is still underway.
