China's medal hopefuls have withdrawn from the women's all-around final at the world gymnastics championships here on Friday.

Chinese women's team have explained that Olympic bronze medallist Zhang Nan and Zhang Yufei were both carrying injuries, sustained during the women's qualifications on Wednesday.

While Yufei would need a two-week rest due to a badly bruised ankle and definitely also miss the floor apparatus final, Nan is now focusing on the individual apparatus finals on the weekend, according to Chinese team leader Zhang Peiwen.

Nan, also bronze medallist in 2003 world championships, told media earlier this week that her back and groin injuries had
worsened since she arrived in Melbourne.

Yufei had an awkward landing on vault during the qualification and needed to be carried from the podium.

She returned in the final rotation to complete all the four exercises on uneven bars but again hobbled off the mats.
