One new bird flu outbreak reported in Xinjiang

China's Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday confirmed one bird flu outbreak in Turpan city of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The Ministry said in a statement that 11 fowls died last Thursday in Turpan and they were confirmed by a state avian flu lab as H5N1 subtype highly pathogenic bird flu cases.

The ministry and local government are handling the outbreak in accordance with the emergency plans. Local veterinary departments have culled 5,180 poultry within three kilometers of the affected.
