Lebron James, Elton Brand named NBA Players of Week

NEW YORK (AFP) - Elton Brand, who averaged a double-double and led the Los Angeles Clippers to a 3-0 record, was named the National Basketball Association Western Conference player of the week.

Brand averaged 25 points and 11.7 rebounds while shooting 57 percent for the Clippers, who are off to a franchise-best 8-2 start.

He had a double-double in each contest, scoring a season high-tying 32 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a 113-101 win over Golden State on Sunday.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week after averaging 29.7 points on 55 percent shooting in leading the team to a 3-0 mark.

On Saturday, the third-year star registered his fifth career triple-double with 36 points, 11 rebounds and a season-high 10 assists in a 123-120 win over Philadelphia.

Other nominees in the East included guards Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat, Larry Hughes of the Cavaliers, Allen Iverson of the 76ers, as will as forwards Chris Bosh of the Toronto Raptors and Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic.

Also nominated in the West were forwards David West of the New Orleans Hornets and Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks, and last week's winner, center Marcus Camby of the Denver Nuggets.
