Driving to the basket at every opportunity, James went 6-for-8 from the floor
and scored 14 points in the third. His 3-point play in the final second gave the
Cavs an 82-70 lead entering the fourth.
Hughes left the Wizards as a free agent this summer when the club low-balled
him with their first contract offer, allowing the Cavaliers to sign him to a
five-year, $60 million deal. He said his decision to bolt the Wizards after
three seasons had nothing to do with money.
Before the game, Hughes was asked how much he was looking forward to playing
the Wizards.
"I definitely want to win so I talk a little smack to those guys," Hughes
said. "I was one of the oldest guys on that team and they kind of looked up to
me."
Hughes asked if he could guard Arenas, but he had plenty of help in the first
quarter as the Cavaliers held the league's hottest player to nine points on just
2-of-10 shooting.
After scoring two points in the first quarter, James had 12 in the first 5:45
of the second as the Cavaliers overcame a seven-point deficit and took their
first lead at 28-26 on Marshall's 3-pointer.
Cavs coach Mike Brown wanted to give James a breather, but just as Luke
Jackson got to the scorer's table to report in, James buried a 3-pointer from
the right wing and Brown waved Jackson back to the bench.
James had 14 points, three rebounds and two assists in the second quarter as
the Cavs took a 47-44 halftime lead.
Magic send Bobcats to 5th straight loss
ORLANDO, Fla. - Dwight Howard had 21 points and 20 rebounds, and the Orlando
Magic beat Charlotte 85-77 Tuesday night to hand the Bobcats their fifth
straight loss.
Howard and Charlotte's Emeka Okafor were the top two
picks in the 2004 draft, and Orlando's No. 1 choice looked like the better
selection on this night.
