Record breaker Federer has McEnroe in his sights By Li Jian (China Daily) Updated: 2005-11-11 06:37
"Wimbledon is the most special thing I have ever achieved. I won there three
times. ... Very special moments. Better than the world number one title. It is a
proud feeling," Federer said.
Another thing he takes pride in is the Federer Foundation, which was launched
three years ago under his name to help underprivileged kids in South Africa.
"I was proud to launch the Federer Foundation in South Africa, which is where
my mum comes from. It is very important to me."
Despite the trappings of success and fame, Federer said he really wants to do
some travelling and with his girlfriend.
"My hobby is travelling. When we arrive at a city we are visiting we try to
see a lot of classic stuff and other attractions. When we leave the place we
miss it and talk about it with friends and family," he said.
Federer spends most of his time on the road each year, with the time at home
limited to about six weeks.
"I want to go home now but I can't," Federer said. "In Switzerland, we have
snowy mountains and we can ski and engage in other sports with my family.
"I have to spend quality time with my girlfriend. I believe it is not easy
for her sometimes, when there is so much going on in a year. She is a great help
to me, making my life easier and more comfortable."
