DPR Korea's first title at the East Asian Games by upsetting a more- heralded
Chinese duo in the women's 10m synchronized platform diving final on Monday.
Hong/Choe, World University Games silver medalists, amassed 330. 50 points
from five consistent dives while the Chinese world champions and newly-crowned
China National Games winners blundered in the fourth dive and had to settle for
a silver medal with 327. 60.
The Chinese scored 63.36 points for their fourth dive 407c - inward three and
half somersaults tuck, opposed to the DPR Koreans ' 79.68.
Japan's Mai Nakagawa/Misako Yamashita finished third with 302. 40 points.
Ma Qianli made up for her near-miss from the top place of the podium in the
women's 1m springboard event by winning the 3m springboard final on Monday.
The 18-year-old Ma, second to diving diva Guo Jingjing in Sunday's 1m
springboard, scored 338.64 points from five dives, more than 13 points ahead of
second-placed Japanese Ryoko Nishii. Ma's teammate Xu Mian snatched the bronze
medal on 323.37 points.
Chinese diver Luo Yutong grabbed his second gold medal here by winning the
men's 1m springboard event on Monday.
Luo, 3m springboard winner on Sunday, garnered 479.84 points for the 1m
title, beating teammate Chen Jiaming by over 20 points.
Chen finished second with 456.12 points with Japanese Ken Terauchi third with
409.95.
