BUENOS AIRES, October 30 (Xinhua) -- Former star player Diego Maradonna has agreed to help coach Argentina's national fooball squad, reversing an earlier rejection, he told Argentine radio on Sunday.

Joining the national team would be "the crowning acheivement of a brilliant year" Maradonna, popularly known as "pelusa" or "fluff", said on air.

In 2005, Maradonna debuted as a television presenter, having won a long battle with alcohol and drug addiction.

Maradonna had previously told reporters that there was "little future" for the job offer, made by Julio Grondona, head of the Argentine Football Association (AFA). On Sunday, he said his earlier comments had been misinterpreted.

Maradonna added that he was looking forward to thanking Grondona in person for the great opportunity. The AFA head is currently in Zurich, Switzerland, at a meeting of the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA)
