NBA Nuggets extend Anthony's contract through

Carmelo Anthony, who has lifted the Denver Nuggets into the playoffs each of his first two National Basketball Association seasons, had his option picked up by the club Friday for the 2006-2007 season.

The star forward will make just over 3.71 million dollars for his third NBA season, which opens Tuesday when the Nuggets visit defending NBA champion San Antonio, and nearly 4.7 million dollars for his fourth campaign.

The Nuggets selected Anthony third overall in the 2003 NBA Draft. He has averaged 20.9 points and 5.9 rebounds over his first two seasons and was second to Cleveland's LeBron James in the 2004 Rookie of the Year balloting
