The Information Office of the State Council will issue a white paper on the country's political democracy today.

This will be the Chinese Government's first white paper on political democracy, an official with the office told Xinhua yesterday.

The white paper, entitled "Building of Political Democracy in China," will give a detailed account of the inception, development, contents and principles of the country's political democracy, the official said.

It will also mention the problems the country has to overcome in its building of political democracy, and the major steps to be taken to reform its political system, he said.

The document is divided into 12 parts, including the people's congress system, the system of ethnic regional autonomy, grassroots democracy in urban and rural areas, and respecting and safeguarding human rights, he said.
